WRITING AND RESEARCH
As an applied think tank, WSC's publications include research and documentation of promising policies and practices in the workforce development field.
- WSC assisted the Commonwealth of Virginia in developing a statewide plan for designing, implementing, sustaining, and marketing career pathways. The strategic plan, requested by Governor Timothy Kaine, is the product of deliberations of a multi-agency task force representing all levels of education, workforce development, and economic development, and input from a select group of key businesses, policymakers, and practitioners. Bridging Business and Education for the 21st Century Workforce: A Strategic Plan for Virginia’s Career Pathways System was released in December 2008.
- With funding from The Joyce Foundation, WSC developed a three-part series of publications called The Pathways to Competitiveness Series. WSC's publications include a white paper defining career pathways, a how-to guide for practitioners to implement career pathways programs, and a guide for state policymakers on how to align workforce and economic development efforts to achieve training and educational objectives.
- WSC worked with the Partnership for New York City to analyze industry sectors of the metropolitan New York City economy, including a look at opportunities in green construction. The results were presented to Mayor Bloomberg’s Committee on Career and Technical Education to inform decisions about future planning for CTE.
